There is a possibility to bring the stage play
Driving Miss Daisy to Chiang Rai. The play is performed in English. If there is enough interest, the play will happen on Friday, the 18th of December. Right now, we are trying to find out if there is enough interest in the play to bring it to Chiang Rai. If you have an interest in seeing this play, please send a personal message to CRF member crties. Your personal message to me is not a commitment to buy a ticket but is only to give us an idea of how much interest there is for the play. If the play does happen on the 18th of December, it will be at The Legend Hotel and Resort. Please see the announcement below.
Hi Everyone. The Chiang Mai Gate Theatre Group (TGTG) is currently producing Driving Miss Daisy and is happy to bring the play to Chiang Rai. Please help us know if there is sufficient interest.
For those of you who don’t know the show:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving_Miss_DaisyDriving Miss Daisy is a moving story of friendship told with humor, warmth and beauty. This family comedy is set in Atlanta, Ga. from 1948 to 1973. Daisy Werthan, an independent, aging widow –disagreeable, and set in her ways – reluctantly surrenders the driver’s seat to Hoke Coleburn, a proud, soft-spoken African American man. At first, Daisy’s stubbornness and cultural prejudices cause much friction, but over the course of 25 years, Hoke becomes not only her chauffeur, but against all odds, her best friend.
The winner of the Pulitzer Prize and Best Picture Academy Award, Alfred Uhry’s play has been performed the world over with renowned actors. This production by TGTG stars Joyce Matchett in the leading role of Miss Daisy with Stephan Turner and Michael Allman rounding out the cast.
Date:Friday 18th December (or we have to wait for February/March and a new lead).
Ticket Price:(donation to TGTG) with discounts for early purchase and students, etc. (300 Baht per ticket before concessions or early bird offers)
Read this tribute from Nancy Lindley, President, Chiang Mai Expats Club after a special dinner performance arranged for the CMEC:
Dear Stephan,
On behalf of the Board and members of the Chiang Mai Expats Club, I wish to extend our thanks for the splendid performance of "Driving Miss Daisy" yesterday at Le Meridien Hotel. The Gate Theater worked very well with the hotel in transforming one of our regular meeting rooms into a very special performance space, with seemingly perfect technical aspects for the performance -- light, sound and audience comfort. But, the real highlight was the absolutely stellar performance of the cast. Everyone was truly drawn into the story, even those not from the U.S.
The audience will certainly be talking about the performance and encouraging their friends to see one of shows at the Kad Theater.
